What's New at ACHQC:

ACHQC Verified Surgeon of Quality Program

ACHQC is excited to announce its NEW Verified Surgeon of Quality program. The goal of the ACHQC Verified Surgeon of Quality program is to recognize and distinguish participating surgeons for their dedication to improving the quality and value of health care for patients who suffer from hernia disease and diseases of the abdominal wall or abdominal core.  Improved quality and value are realized through the consistent entry of data in the ACHQC Registry and participation in ACHQC's continuous quality improvement programs.

ACHQC leadership believes surgeons focusing on quality improvement efforts will perform at their highest level.  We hope that through this verification program, surgeons will be recognized by their peers and broader network for their dedication to improving the quality and value of patient care in their communities.

The QC Uncut Video Series will involve episodes consisting of 30 minutes of unedited video. A hernia related case will be demonstrated. The video will be narrated by the operating surgeon with a resident/fellow alongside asking questions.  The focus should be on technical aspects as well as identifying anatomic landmarks, improving exposure and getting out of trouble.

Coding Update for Abdominal Wall Reconstruction

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE CODING UPDATE PUBLICATION

The ACHQC is proud to announce a coding update for the performance of abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR), recently published in the journal Hernia. This update defines abdominal wall reconstruction and clarifies the coding for performance of Rives-Stoppa retrorectus repairs. Importantly, the publication clearly states that AWR coding should be applied based on myofascial releases performed, regardless of approach (open, laparoscopic, or robotic-assisted). We hope this document can clarify current ambiguities in AWR coding and can be used as a resource by coding professionals, surgeons, hospitals, and professional societies. The publication itself represents an innovation in coding by utilizing real world data to justify the updates. We wish to thank all the members of the ACHQC for your continued support to make high impact publications like this possible. The publication is available free of charge using the above link.

Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative

The Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative (ACHQC), formerly the Americas Hernia Society Quality Collaborative (AHSQC), aims to improve the value of care delivered to patients undergoing hernia and abdominal surgery. Formed by hernia surgeons in private practice and academic settings, the ACHQC utilizes concepts of continuous quality improvement to improve outcomes and optimize costs. This is accomplished through patient-centered data collection, ongoing performance feedback to clinicians, and improvement based on analysis of collected data and collaborative learning.
